The characteristics of a layer of snow

This survey of snow is not exhaustive, nevertheless, a layer of snow can be characterised by:

- Its thickness, variable from one place to another.
- The crystals of which it is made up.
- Its hardness.
- Its dampness (presence of liquid water or not).
- Density, temperature etc...
- Surface state.
